Research about Euroseas

Euroseas has become one of the largest (Southeast) Asia conferences worldwide. It attracts a steady body of participants, many of whom have participated in earlier editions and may join in future ones. As organizers of the 2024 Amsterdam Conference and as regular participants ourselves, we are curious as to what conference-goers feel ‘makes’ Euroseas. As lecturers at the University of Amsterdam we have enlisted the help of a team of enthusiastic students to explore this question together with you. You may notice these students during the conference days as they observe our behavior and our rituals, and you may be approached by them with a request for a conversation.

Clearly, we understand that you do not attend the conference to be part of a research project, but the team will be more than happy to set up an appointment for a talk at a later moment, possibly via telephone, WhatsApp, teams or Zoom. They will be gratefully collecting contact information from those of you who are willing to partake. Also, there will be a survey posted around the event premises which can be easily accessed via QR codes. (this QR code can also be used to share contact information for a later interview).

We greatly value your thoughts and ideas about Euroseas and its conferences, and we seek to get to know the stories, ideas and experiences of its participants. It is through you that we aim to understand what Euroseas is, how it became this and where it might be taken.

The results of this project will be made publicly available, and anonymity will be guaranteed.

We hope you are as curious to the answers to this question as we are, and that you will be willing

to talk with our team. Thank you.
