While Southeast Asian g overnments have made ambitious commitments to emissions reduction targets, new points of conflict and cooperation have emerged between political elite s and environmental movements at both the subnational and national level. D espite its evident importance, the study of climate politics in Southeast A sia is still fairly marginal. The proposed panel aims to make new contribut ions to this area of research, focusing in particular on the political proc esses, policies, and actors that have shaped responses to climate change in the region. We aim to bring together scholars working on these issues in d ifferent Southeast Asian countries and from a range of disciplinary perspec tives. Questions the panel seeks to explore include:\n\n- \nHow do differen t political actors and institutions in Southeast Asia shape climate change policy and governance?\n\n- Does regime type affect the politics of climate change in Southeast Asia?\n- How are climate change and its impacts framed in Southeast Asian media discourses?\n- How do local communities respond t o the impacts of climate change and to state-sponsored adaptation and mitig ation measures?\n- What forms of political activism have emerged in Southea st Asia around issues such as climate justice?\n- How does the global UN cl imate regime affect national adaptation and mitigation strategies in Southe ast Asia?\n- How can awareness about climate change and its consequences be enhanced in Southeast Asia?
